Well, despite knowing that they are in situationships, most of them still choose to stick with it. It may be due to a variety of emotional and practical reasons. That’s actually driven by hope, attachment, physical intimacy, and ‘feel-good’ moments.
In most cases, the word ‘hope‘ plays a major role, where the situationship will eventually turn into a serious relationship. Also, emotional attachments make things difficult, which prevents them from walking away. Because of the fear of being alone or starting over, they like to hold back from familiar connections.
Research backs this up: a 2024 YouGov survey found that 50% of adults aged 18 to 34 in the United States reported having been in a situationship, and among that group, over half said the relationship began in person rather than through a digital platform. Additionally, 1 in 5 Gen Z respondents cited the fear of choosing the wrong person as their primary reason for avoiding commitment altogether.

Unknowingly, to hold the connections, individuals ignore the red flags, like mixed signals or a lack of effort.
